What do workers do when they get sick? More often than not, they go to work. They know they should stay home — but they're facing impossible choices. They can't afford to lose pay. They worry their boss would punish them. They may even lose their job.
But working sick isn't working. It just makes sick workers sicker. And the COVID-19 pandemic showed us that making workers go to work when they're ill spreads contagious diseases, putting us all at risk. Working sick undermines our public health system and our economy.
We need to stop forcing workers to make choices that put their livelihood at risk.
Our plan covers every worker, whether you're full-time, part-time, temporary or casual.
One of the most important things we've learned in 2020 is we can't take public health for granted — and workplace health is public health. If we want workers to stay home when they're sick, it's time to stop punishing them for making the healthy choice.
